FRANKOMA TALK

I have only been collecting frankoma for about a year, and still have a lot to learn so hopefully some one on here can answer my question. I recently purchased a thunderbird canteen, I have several others all marked, but the new one i purchased does not. I did have some resevations about the purchase, but it was a beautiful piece so i bought it anyway. I questioned the seller about its lack of a mark and they said not all canteens were marked. Im sure this could be true but the bottom of this canteen doesnt even resemble the bottoms of my others.
Was the information I was given true? or is this a knock-off piece?

I have found many pieces of Frankoma NOT marked,.. right now I have a canteen that is marked small *frankoma that is Ada Clay, .. the other canteen was purchased from a Frankoma collector, Not marked this happens most of the time on the older pieces. but the one I have that is not marked is sapulpa clay, possibly made in the late 70.s or 80's I say this because the mold is worn and the patterns on the canteen are not as clear and well defined as the older piece. but definately Frankoma! When I find a Frankoma piece, and Know it is Ada clay, I do not worry to much about it not being marked , especially if it is a well known but older piece, and all the right glazes and sizes match the original Info. I obtain. It can be confusing , Keep learning all you can , and do use the reference Books ! There are so many good Frankoma collectors out there with knowlege on Frankoma. Try to go to the FFCA reunions there is where you will find the top experts in the usa! hope this helped!!
